By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of the brand Red Apple Lipstick. Even before I went green, I was on a search for lippies that didn’t irritate my sensitive lips. I hesitate to try any product with any Vitamin E in it. However, RAL’s lippies are made with a high-quality, gluten-free Vitamin E that doesn’t make my lips angry. I am so glad I found them! Here are some of my favorite things about the company:
- Safe ingredients – Their gluten-free Vitamin E doesn’t irritate my sensitive lips. Gluten-free and no harsh chemicals.
- Extensive color selection – I want all the colors. It’s not hard at all to find a dupe/alternative to my pre-green favorites.
- Quality products – These babies last. Like, MAC-status last. I’m sure you know that it’s hard to find longevity in “natural” products, but these lippies don’t play around.
- Personalized customer service – Their support gal, Ashley, is always such a delight to correspond with. She even helped me with a coupon code over the phone when I didn’t have one!
- Fast shipping – I usually get my order within a couple of days of placing my order.
- Six-month return policy – Who else offers this? Come on.
I, myself, am not gluten-free, but I appreciate the carefully chosen ingredients. I imagine that being GF and stumbling upon RAL would be like finding a goldmine. I recently expanded my collection from one lippie to six, so I wanted to share some thoughts and swatches.
Left to Right: Rallye Balm, Exfoliate, Rebel!, Vogue, New York, Sweet Coraline
When I ordered my tube of The Lash Project, RAL hooked me up and sent me a full-size Rallye Balm. I had sampled it for a few days previously, but I ended up losing my ziplock of samples (argh!). I was extremely worried that my lips would break out with contact dermatitis from the Vitamin E, but fear not, nothing of the sort happened! Not even a little. My lips have been so soft using this balm. The balm is silky and provides just the right amount of moisture. My lips don’t feel “wet” after using it. I can keep my lips under control, even with weather changes, when my lips tend to dry out and chap easily. I keep them moisturized 24/7 because I’m weird and obsessed. I reapply every couple of hours. Sooo I finished my tube in about a month. Since then, I’ve re-ordered two more tubes; one for my purse and one for my desk at work. I can’t be without it!
The Exfoliate stick comes in a traditional lipstick tube that I’m quite fond of. I have a couple of other lip scrubs, but they’re all packaged in jars and sometimes things get can messy. Seriously, this exfoliater is so easy, you guys. You just apply like a normal lipstick, use your fingers to rub it in, wipe the product off with a cloth, and rinse with fresh water. Obvs, follow with some balm. Like I mentioned above, my lips get finicky whenever the weather changes. This is a great scrub to help slough off dead skin and keep my lips healthy! P.S. It smells like peppermint bubblegum.
Now for the lipsticks!
Rebel! is a classic blue-based red. It’s deeper than your bright red lip – think pin-up red. I’ve been searching for a green alternative to my MAC Russian Red and this just might be the ticket (future post comparing the two? Yes? No?). Rich, saturated, and pigmented. It may be better to apply this one with a lip brush for precision. I can’t wait to wear this shade during the holiday season!
Vogue is a muted berry shade that can be built up to your desired intensity. There is some shimmer, as you can see from the close-up photo, but it’s hardly noticeable once applied. Vogue is really glossy – so ditch the gloss with this one! It’s a very soft, neutral color that I’ve been reaching for a lot lately to wear to work.
New York is a beautiful brown-based nude with orange undertones, although on me it reads more pink. I can definitely see using this shade with a more dramatic eye look. This is my new go-to nude lip! I keep seeing bloggers layer RAL’s Honeybadger gloss over this, so I’d like to try that combo eventually!
I’ve actually had Sweet Coraline for about four months now. It was the first RAL shade I ordered. This is a gorgeous coral with fine gold shimmer. The glitter isn’t gritty, meaning that I don’t “feel” it on my lips. Perfect for the summer, but that won’t stop me from wear ing this year-round.
All of these lippies are smooth and creamy and really just everything you could ever want in a lipstick. I’m saying buh-bye to my MAC lippies! I get about 4 hours of wear before I decide I want to re-apply again but honestly, save for Rebel!, most days I just let the lippies sit and I’ll maybe re-apply after lunch. I like the look of the stain they leave behind. Having said that, the lipsticks aren’t difficult to remove at the end of the day. They come off easily with a cleansing oil and warm water.
