I’m back with another liquid liner review! I’ve been testing this baby out for the past month or so, and I have to say that I am completely smitten. If you read my last liquid liner review, you’ll know that I’ve been looking for a replacement to the Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. I think I may have found it in the Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum. Phew – what a mouthful.
I’ll start off by saying that I can’t comment on the serum aspect of this product. I’ve only been using it for a month and so far haven’t noticed any changes in regards to length or thickness. This seems to be the consensus among most online reviews; people praise this product for its liner capabilities and the added serum benefits are an afterthought. Some of the brand’s claims:
“Hypoallergenic. Fragrance free. Paraben free. Dermatologist approved. Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.” – physiciansformula.com
All good things. I have both sensitive eyes and wear contact lenses! This product scores a 3 on EWG, which is pretty good, especially for an affordable drugstore product. The top 3 ingredient concerns that don’t score 1s are SD Alcohol 40, Phenoxyethanol, and Sodium Hydroxide. I am personally fine with the inclusion of these ingredient, especially because the search for a cleaner liquid liner has been such an arduous journey and this product performs amazingly well! It’s everything I was looking for in a cleaner product.
The packaging is sleek – a mirror silver pen with a finely-tapered felt tip and a snap closure cap (more satisfying than you realize). Unfortunately I’ve since gotten rid of my Stila liner so I can’t share any side-by-side photo comparisons. From what I remember though, they feel very comparable. They’re both 0.16oz, felt-tipped and come to very fine points. The felt tip of the PF liner may be a little longer than Stila’s. It also has a little less pigmentation than the Stila. The ink is little sheerer, but can be built up to be very black.
The PF liner comes in Black, Ultra Black, and Deep Brown, which is nice. Not nearly as many color choices as Stila offers, but I’m not looking for that. From other reviews I’ve read, it seems that their Black color is more of a grey, while their Ultra Black color is a regular black. I purchased Ultra Black and I’m thinking of picking up the Deep Brown next.
The felt tip is firm yet flexible. I feel like I have a lot of control when I use this liner. It’s easy to drag the length of the tip along my lash line for thickness, and just as easy to create a fine wing at the ends. Here are a couple photos to better illustrate the tip’s flexibility:
L-R: Heavy swatch, light swatch, swirl, thin line with little pressure, thick line with pressure
See how fine and light of a line you can get from the tip?
Make your wings disappear into nothingness. Yas.
The formula is much wetter than the La Bella Donna liner, which is g-r-e-a-t. It dries with a slight sheen so it isn’t completely matte. It’s easy to work with and lasts me all day. I have yet to see any smudging or smearing, even after long 12-hour days. Hallelujah!
Being a drugstore product, I love that this is readily available at my local Target or Ulta. And, it’s under $10, compared to Stila’s $22 pricetag.
That wing is more than I’d usually do on a normal day, though. Just FYI.
This is a less dramatic wing after an 8-hour day. No smearing, fading, or smudging.
Eyeshadow is W3LL PEOPLE Elitist Eyeshadow Powder in 86 Satin Apricot:
And just for funsies, I made a gif to show how easy it is to create a fine wing. I am aware of the much-needed brow maintenance but I really wanted to make a gif.
Honestly, I am just amazed I was able to do this at all and that it wasn’t this:
I promise my future gifs will be better. I’m even thinking of making some videos. Would anyone watch those?
That’s about it – this product is very near to HG status for me. I will definitely be repurchasing this liner unless some other cool, sexy, product seduces me before then, which happens a lot. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving – I’ll be back later with some Black Friday & Cyber Monday deals to take you through the weekend!
